Earthdog trials


The Scottish Terrier Club of New England is hosting four AKC Earthdog Tests over two days in October 2025 at 370 Wildcat Hill Road, Harwinton, CT. These tests offer various classes for eligible small terriers and dachshunds to demonstrate their hunting skills in a controlled environment.

Event Schedule and Location

 The tests will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 11-12, 2025, with morning and afternoon sessions each day at the specified address in Harwinton, CT. Gate entries open at 8:00 AM, with specific closing times for Master and other classes. 

 

Entry Procedures and Fees

Pre-entries close at 6:00 PM on October 9, 2025. Entry fees are $15 for Intro to Quarry and $25 for Novice, Junior, Senior, and Master classes, with a $3.50 AKC recording fee included for regular classes. Entries must be mailed with fees to the Test Secretary. 

 

Eligible Breeds and Classes

Eligible breeds include dachshunds and various terrier breeds such as Scottish, Cairn, West Highland White, and others. Classes range from Intro to Quarry to Master Earthdog, with specific eligibility criteria based on prior titles earned. 

 

Judging and Test Details

The tests will be judged by qualified judges assigned to specific classes and times. Master Earthdog braces are drawn 15 minutes before class start, with strict check-in times. The test runs rain or shine, and dogs must be at least six months old and registered with AKC or an equivalent registry. 

 

 

Awards and Recognition

:Rosettes are awarded to all qualifying entries in Novice through Master classes, including those earning titles or qualifying in both Endurance Earthdog categories. Ribbons are given for Intro to Quarry qualifying scores. 

 

Veterinary and Safety Information

Emergency veterinary care is available at the Veterinary Emergency Center of Canton, CT. Owners must ensure their dogs are controlled and treated humanely during the tests. Excessive correction or abuse is grounds for disciplinary action. 

 

 

Additional Amenities and Accommodations

A simple lunch and beverages will be provided free to participants and guests. Overnight camping is available by advance arrangement without hook-ups. Nearby pet-friendly accommodations are listed with a recommendation to confirm pet policies due to seasonal demand. 

 

 

Rules and Liability

The event is held under AKC rules and regulations, with participants required to acknowledge and accept liability waivers releasing the club and associated parties from claims related to injury, loss, or damage during the event. Copies of relevant AKC rules are available upon request.
